Chilly / color blocking

Lately, I keep hearing about COLOR BLOCKING! I've always been attracted to bright and rich colored shirts, and most of the time you aren't going to be able to find something that matches that color exactly, so color blocking is always an easy way to wear & show off bright and rich hues. I love the look, especially when a big print or an unusual textile is thrown in to add depth.

I've recently been Listening to the band Chilly a lot lately. In their 1982 video for Secret Lies their color block outfits are awesome! They even mismatched and color blocked their shoes!

Helen Martins 'Owl House'

"Within the small town of Nieu-Bethesda, which lies in the area called the Great Karoo, is a fascinating display of works from concrete and glass, found in an eccentrically decorated house called the "Owl House"."

"It is said that she lay ill in bed one night, considering how dull and grey her life had become, when she resolved, there and then, that she would strive to bring light and colour into her life. That simple decision, to embellish her environment, was to grow into an obsessive urge to express her deepest feelings, her dreams and her desires."

Fun store windows on Illinois st.

Which one stands proudly and proclaims "I AM"?

I wish I saw people dressed like this every day.

wickity whack.

I saw these Fleur Woods pictures and i thought they really made wicker chairs look modern and glam. I've never really paid much attention to wicker, but after seeing this i thought "maybe if i find a cool chair for cheap it would be fun to play with"
literally DAYS after seeing this picture i ran into a hooded banana wicker chair at midland for a steal. Seth and I painted it 'pistacio' and voila! Our office had a very 70's mod feel we wanted to play with and bring some different elements in. We found a wicker storage table that matched for cheap, a bell jar from Uber Boutique, and some plants. I like the earthy Greenhouse vibe it brings! I think i'm going to paint the table yellow.

Monki Styles

"Monki is an entity derived from mixtures of old chemicals, forgotten in the ruins of old fabric factories in the city of oil and steel. Monki is also a store concept and women's clothes brand. Unique illustrated prints on clothes, packaging and stationaries continously tells stories from the world of the Monkis."

I love their creativity, the styling is top notch, young and fresh. don't even get me started on how awesome the hair is.
Their website design is amazing as well. They are much more than a clothing business. They have a blog, a magazine, a show, they also feature a DJ on their website Monthly. Heres my favorite one, by Cata.Pirata. I listened to it while cleaning yesterday and found it very hard not to break out dancing!

Mellow 80's revival

Thrifty days.

Do rainy days and Mondays always get you down? you could run and find the one who loves you, or you could go thrift shopping. I love going to salvation army, value world and the likes. These things caught my eye on monday.

                                                           Awesome 80's bar stools

This couch was amazing, and $40.

Funky 70's Plastic print top table.

What a happy and bright storage unit. It reminds me of the Joe Columbo storage I can only dream of. This is a nice alternative at five dollars!

Love this print I saw on an 80's silk blazer

CONFETTI!

Do you ever look at the wallpapers at thrift stores? you should. They are usually 50 cents a roll. This one reminds me of the tree wallpaper from Anthropologie that has been everywhere recently.

I always stop for animal art.

This little dish/plate is adorable. I love the bright pink in the tassel, and the black and white triangles.

Imagine this hot pink, or yellow, or really any color.

I liked the carved rose at the top of this, it would be so easy to reupholster and make more modern.

My friend Mark found this wonderful patterned shirt.

I thought this was just cute. It's made by someone named Donna Wilson. It's funny because I had just read about a designer named Donna Wilson on Apartment Therapy. I'm sure it is not the same one, her style is different, but I see some similarities. She makes amazing pillows, throws, and more.
Live the Carpenters dream with Donna Wilsons rainy day pillow.
